Kings Park in Spring

What started out as a warm Spring day turned to dark, oppressive and wet by the time I reached Kings Park. The sky almost looked like a storm might break at any moment. I didn’t get nearly as many shots as I would have liked, between the frequent rain shows, dashing for cover and dodging people.
But it was still a good afternoon.

Spring Blooming

Time spent with family is always enjoyable; its even more poignant when the rest of your life is hard. Its a reminder that there are people who will be there for you, supporting you. My husband and I received a number of hard blows these last few weeks, and just that brief moment away from it all for a weekend helped provide the strength to face the challenges in front of us.

Raindrops

I went out for a ramble with my camera today; and was rewarded with two ticks trying to hitch a ride back to my place. I hope it was only two. I have double checked. You can’t always be sure you found all of the little blighters though. I found a dirt path along the limestone cliffs that wound its way through the undergrowth. It was hard to resist.

Volunteers in Action; National Volunteer Week

I was recently invited by the Fremantle Volunteer Service to help them out taking photos of local volunteers out in the wild; doing their thing and supporting the local community. I’ve done a lot of volunteer work in my time, so I jumped at the opportunity to help showcase work that is often unsung. It was at times confronting, at others entertaining and interesting. I got to see the firing of the cannon at The Roundhouse, and met some lucky furry and feathered friends who’ve been given the chance at a new lease on life.

Midday Sunshine

When I woke up this morning, I was greeted by housework. Considering I was barely home over the weekend, a surprising amount of work was generated. But the day was bright, warm and clear. The seaside beckoned. And so I had my green tea and rice for breakfast and headed out.

I hadn’t really thought about taking my camera but it was already packed in my backpack. It felt good wandering around on the coast, tramping through the sand. Pausing to contemplate the view, the wildflowers and the salty air. This is one of the photos I took, with others to come over the next few days.

It felt good to get home and I applied myself to the housework and task of job hunting with renewed vigour. After the mental exhaustion of the weekend I feel much more positive.

A life lived in darkness

This is my grandfather. He has worked most of his life on the land, and still owns and runs his own sheep farm. The photo you can see was taken seven years ago, but I intend to share something a little more recent soon. A little more personal.

Silhouette

Found this sitting in my draft folder. I know that its in Point Peron as I recognise the silhouettes, but not when it was taken or why we were there. We go here a lot though, so it may have just been a walk and the sky was a lovely colour.

Early Morning at Point Peron

Early Evening Mist

Another recovered photo from the corrupted SD card. I remember stopping by the side of the road just before sunset because I was surprised that the mist had already begun to settle.

Hiking in the Rain

This is another photo recovered from the corrupted SD card that Sam managed to perform a successful recovery on. Its from the same holiday as Albany – 2013. On the way back up we pulled over by a small, nondescript carpark for lunch. We seen an old, moss-covered sign that indicated there was a trail through the forest leading down to a waterfall. Since it had been raining for the past week we thought we’d see if the waterfall was running. Sadly, it wasn’t. But the walk was lovely.

Holiday – 2013

A photo recovered from an old SD card that I had kept after it became corrupted; that Sam managed to perform a recovery on. I’m fairly certain this was from a random weekend away to Albany; though I am happy to be corrected if its not.

I don’t have much more to say about it since I don’t remember the holiday well enough to even know where we went. Though it was taken with my old DSLR, given the date it was taken. Which is just a interesting factoid for you.

Frankie – the photos

A new addition to the Platt family; Frankie (short for Frankenstein, as his birthday is Halloween) is a Border Collie and the beautiful puppy of my brother-in-law and his wife. These are the photos I took at the same time as shooting the videos that made up the previous post. You can see the higher…
